Maya Chen

The One Who Keeps Him Alive.

Maya Chen is the person who makes everything else possible. While Kade operates inside Aethelgard, Maya is the one managing the reality on the other side of the connection — monitoring his vitals, keeping his equipment running, and being the voice that tells him the truth when he doesn't want to hear it.

She is a researcher by nature and instinct — sharp, thorough, and possessed of the particular exhaustion that comes from caring about someone who takes risks she can see and he can't. She runs on cold coffee and three-day research sessions. She keeps meticulous records of things that might matter later. She noticed the Neosys memo before anyone else did.

Maya occupies an unusual position in the story: she never enters Aethelgard herself, but her presence is felt throughout it. She is Kade's contact with the real world — the one who grounds him, challenges him, and occasionally reads him critical information at exactly the moment he needs it and doesn't want it.

She is not a player. She is something more important than that: the person who makes sure the player comes home.
